In memoriam

The original historic plaque commemorating the men who died during the Expedition was lost years ago. However, memories of the members of the Expedition still abound, especially in the north.

At Sachs Harbour, people would like to see a new commemorative plaque at the place where the Mary Sachs was abandoned. Would it not be a great idea to place an updated plaque there on Banksland for visitors, and those who live there, to remember the people who contributed to the exploration of Canada’s Arctic through the Canadian Arctic Expedition. We would have to add Pipsuk’s name to the list of those who died on the Expedition, or, we could celebrate all of the positives aspects of the Expedition instead.

With this, the “last post” for the Canadian Arctic Expedition blog, we hope that we have added to the memories of the Expedition, and that our blog readers will continue to learn more about the history of Canada’s Arctic and the people who live there.
