Fireweed (Gisg'ast)

Photograph: Merle Toole Photograph: Steven Darby The third section of the pole is a representation of five pairs of fireweed leaves entwined up the 3 m (9 ft.) height of this part of the pole. The fireweed is a crest of the phratry but the origin of this crest is not known. This section is a replacement for the original, which was undecorated.
