The people who live in the lower Mackenzie Valley and in the greater
Beaufort/Delta region are from a surprizing range of cultural backgrounds.
The majority of the population is made up of Native people, the area's
original inhabitants. Two distinct First Nations are present in a number
of communities throughout the region. Within the
past few decades, there has also been a growing number of non-Native people
taking up residence in the region as new opportunities developed. The
presence of these people is most obvious in the multi-cultural town of
Inuvik.
