This sculpture was found at Chichen Itzá in the Castillo, a temple-pyramid of Classic Maya style but with Toltec decoration added later; it was in fact inside an earlier temple over which the present Castillo was built at a later date. The style of the piece evidences a Classic period origin. Jade was used for the eyes and the spots on the coat, while the jaguar's fangs were made of flint. The sculpture may have been a throne for the high priest.
