Every graphic element of a cigar box, inside and out—every word of text, every scrap of paper, virtually every smudge of ink—was there for a purpose. Each contained a message that had to do with the cigar manufacturer, the cigar maker, the cigar seller, the cigar smoker, or the federal government.
