Pioneer Wagon (carving)

CMC PCD 94-663-005

    By Erskine Brown; Thornbury, Ontario; 1961-1974; painted wood, metal; 82 x 40 x 39 cm. CMC 74-1012

As a young boy at the turn of the century, Erskine Brown was familiar with the various farm wagons and machines pulled by horses and oxen. Years later, retired and living alone, Mr. Brown turned to reproducing those vehicles of the past in carved wooden models. The Pioneer Wagon represents the artist's effort to describe visually the harsh life of the early settlers.
