Aboriginal Arts: Rattle-Making Workshop
Aboriginal Arts: Rattle-Making Workshop
Gatineau, Quebec, August 11, 2006
On August 22 and August 23, join Algonquin artist Daniel "Pinock" Smith to create a traditional flat-disk hand rattle made of ash wood, rawhide and pebbles.
Daniel Smith, known as Pinock to his family and friends, was born and resides on the Kitigan-Zibi Reserve near Maniwaki, Quebec. For the past 20 years, this talented teacher has participated in Native Awareness Demonstrations, which allow him to share his knowledge of traditional techniques and pass on the teachings of his ancestors, which are rooted in his community. He is also a gifted builder of birchbark canoes, and builds wigwams, cradleboards and snowshoes.
