Canadian Railway Troops
Cap badge of the 12th Battalion of Canadian Railway Troops, a corps created in 1915 to repair and construct railways near the fighting front. In the last two years of the war, all light railway construction along the British Front in France and Belgium was Canadian responsibility. Canadian railway troops also served in the Middle East. By war's end, the corps was more than 19,000 strong.
