Captured Rifle
The brass plate on this German bolt-action military rifle notes that Lieutenant Alexander Robertson captured it during the war's first trench raid by a Canadian battalion. The raid took place near Messines against Petite Douve farm during the night of 6 to 7 November 1915. Robertson then with the 7th Battalion, was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for his actions. He was later transferred to the 54th Battalion.
