The Grand Hotel was a Salvation Army leave centre for Canadian troops serving in Italy. Opened in 1944 in Riccione, on the Adriatic coast, it offered clean surroundings, comfortable beds, hot meals and, perhaps most importantly, a place to relax in Canadian-style surroundings.
