My parents. I was raised to follow the teachings of Christ and they have been supportive with all my questions and forgiving me when I screw up. Now my faith in God and His sacrifice and love for me are my own. He also loves me even when I mess up!

Dr. Professor Luke Galen is my spiritual mentor. I listen to his “reasonable doubts” podcast religiously. I also value the philosophy of Peter Singer, which inspires me to constantly challenge my idea of what is ethical.

Throughout my life the only person I’ve ever had a serious conversation with about spiritualism is my sister. I find it hard to talk to others without feeling liked I’m being judged for believing in what some consider a “dying religion”. Having faith is sometimes the hardest thing to do in my life. I notice how differently I live from some of my friends and it’s hard to go against the tide. The only person who has encouraged me is my sister; even my family doesn’t really follow a religion except church on holidays. I’ve even had someone automatically assume that because I’m Christian I was going to attempt to convert them, and hated me for it. I didn’t even know the person but they avoided getting to know me based on a stereotype. I’m now always paranoid about bringing up the subject of my religion to people, I don’t want anyone to think I’m trying to press my beliefs on them, but I can always talk to my sister without worrying about that.

I look to the Prophet Mohamed’s example. I like his example because it is consistent. I have read his life story and mercy and forgiveness is what he stood for and I wanna to base my life on mercy, love and forgiveness to those around me.
