Lord of the Dance – it speaks to me of the gift of joy and how we can all overcome adversity to find the joy in our lives if make an effort to seek and embrace it.

Imagine by John Lennon always inspires me. It is about a future where people can think more freely and be understood more easily. In it everyone believes what is true, and nobody believes in what is untrue. A huge stumbling block has been cleared from our path. A giant weight lifted from our shoulders.

A poem actually, by Khalil Gibran called Joy and Sorrow that reminds us that sadness exists only because we can experience happiness and that the deeper the sadness we should know that the (loss of) happiness from which it springs is its source and we should appreciate our sadness for what it is, a token of our deepest experiences of joy. It has given me hope and spiritual insight into my own self as well as others.

I enjoy many contemporary pieces but my favourite is an 8th century Irish christian hymn: “Be Thou My Vision” by Dallan Forgaill. It is a prayer of commitment.

I don’t listen to music but I listen to the recitation of the Quran which I find spiritual and I guess it’s similar to a song to an untrained ears, just the lyrics is the words of the Quran.
