Glorious Mosaic

Gatineau, Quebec, August 8, 2006 — On August 17, the Canadian Museum of Civilization invites you to learn about the ancient art of mosaic making in conjunction with the exhibition PETRA: Lost City of Stone, which will be presented until February 18, 2007.

The bold colours and soft hues of Petra’s intricate mosaics echo the landscape. The artists drew inspiration from the world around them: the pomegranate trees and grapevines shading city gardens, the camels and donkeys trudging dusty paths. Gerry Lavery will be demonstrating the contemporary techniques that keep this art alive.
