Added by you! Leonard Cohen

Poet, novelist, and singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen has had a profound impact in Canada and around the world. Born in 1934 in Montréal, Cohen published his first book of poems, Let Us Compare Mythologies, in 1956 when he was just twenty-two. In 1967, his first album, The Songs of Leonard Cohen, immediately established him as a highly accomplished songwriter; it included the classic “Suzanne.” Cohen has released only 12 studio albums in his 45-year recording career, yet his critical standing and influence are comparable to Bob Dylan’s. Drawing on language and forms from the Bible, other religious texts and traditional ballads, Cohen’s lyrics and poems address with wit and irony, perennial themes such as love, desire, faith, betrayal and redemption. His most widely known song, “Hallelujah,” has been recorded by hundreds of artists. Still performing and recording at 78, Cohen is more popular than ever.
