Added by you! Lucy Maud Montgomery

The author of twenty novels, Lucy Maud Montgomery remains best known for her first full-length book of fiction, the internationally celebrated Anne of Green Gables, published in 1908. Montgomery’s early life resembles that of Anne Shirley, her protagonist from the Anne series. Like the orphan Anne, Montgomery was raised by elderly relatives after her mother’s death and her father’s relocation from Prince Edward Island to western Canada. A prolific and successful writer of articles, poems and stories, Montgomery nonetheless endured great sorrow as a result of her mother’s early death, the still-birth of her second son and her husband’s battles with depression. Although Montgomery died in 1946, Anne continues to bring joy to legions of fans around the world, many of whom visit Prince Edward Island to pay tribute to Montgomery’s beloved character.
