Bell of the Empress of Ireland

The ancestors of tens of thousands of Canadians immigrated to Canada aboard the Empress of Ireland. On May 29, 1914, the Empress was struck in the St. Lawrence Estuary by a Norwegian collier. The ship sank within 15 minutes, killing an estimated 1,012 of the 1,477 passengers and crew.
