I submit “My Own” because mine is the perspective which refuses to reduce the Canadian story to “one or two” perspectives which I find most interesting. Mine is the perspective which recognizes that the story of this nation has woven together the stories of Aboriginal people; European settlers; the educated elite; the general public; the powerful; the marginalized; of men; of women–none of whose stories or perspectives can justifiably be deemed less interesting or valuable than others.
At the end of the day it is my I opinion and perspective that will drive home with me after a visit to the museum. In saying this I would enjoy museum exhibits that promote contrasting evidence and opinions that will provoke new thinking for me. Relying on someone else’s interpretation moves me out of history and into propaganda.
