Jean-Luc Pilon

Dr. Pilon’s Canadian field work has ranged from central Quebec to the lower Mackenzie Valley. He has also participated in field work in Patagonia and on First World War battlefields of northern France.

Dr. Pilon’s exhibition credits include Curator of the People of the Longhouse module in the Museum’s First Peoples Hall, and Co-Curator of First Peoples of Canada: Masterworks from the Canadian Museum of Civilization, which has toured internationally. His recent publications include Painting the Past with a Broad Brush: Papers in Honour of James Valliere Wright, which he co-edited.   

Dr. Pilon is an Adjunct Research Professor at Carleton University, a member of the Archaeology Committee of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History, and Co-Editor of the PAIGH journal Revista de Arqueología Americana. He is a past president of the Ontario Archaeological Society and has served as Web Editor for the Canadian Archaeological Association.

Dr. Pilon was born and raised in the Ottawa Valley town of Vankleek Hill, Ontario. He studied Anthropology and Archaeology at the universities of Toronto and Laval, obtaining his PhD in Anthropology from the University of Toronto.
